How do I know if you’re the right therapist for me?

Before you come in for an actual counseling appointment, we can schedule a brief phone consultation to discuss your goals and to see if I am the person to help you. From this, we should be able to gather if we are a good therapist/client fit. I am in the helping profession, so as much as I hope we can work together, I can also make referrals to ensure you find the best person for you.

How long is a counseling session?

Counseling sessions are 60 minutes.

How many times will I need to go to counseling?

Frequency of sessions depend on if you are in a crisis situation, wanting to work through something that’s been weighing on you heavily for a while, or seeking guidance and validation on your journey.

Some clients come in weekly at first, then bi-weekly, then monthly, bi-monthly, and then maybe to a couple of “tune up” sessions per year. It really depends on your development and whatever works best for you.

How much does it cost?

The first session is $175, and subsequent sessions are $150 for a 55/60-minute session. I accept cash, check, and credit cards, and payment is expected at the time of the visit.

Since your appointment time is reserved for you and you alone, I have a “no-show” and a "late cancellation" policy. I ask for a 24-hour cancellation notice so that I might book someone from the waiting list in an open appointment slot. Please be advised, insurance does not pay for no-shows and late cancellations.

Do you take insurance?

I take BCBS health insurance.  All others are out-of -network, and I would be happy to file your insurance for you, but you will be responsible for the balance. Unfortunately, I am unable as well as patients to bill Medicare due to Federal Regulations.

Please keep in mind that when using insurance, your records and the information received by the insurance company are not confidential, and I have no control over who will see your information.  I do my best to document as little as possible, however, it will be noted in your health insurance system that you have received mental health services. I have heard cases of this impacting life insurance eligibility, jobs, and obtaining other health insurance, so please remain mindful.

How can I afford therapy?

Think about therapy as an investment instead of a short-term fix or a band-aid for the problem. This type of investment will bring positive, long-lasting changes. You, as well as your family, friends, and colleagues, will benefit from your investment. Counseling is as priceless as your whole self–your mind, body, and spirit will reap the benefits.
